The defending champions are up and running. They have started off with an authoritative win and will look to carry forward that momentum. Welsh Fire are once again relying heavily on Ben Duckett and that is something they need to change. That's all from this first game of season two. We'll be back here tomorrow and expect your company as well. Until then, goodbye and stay safe ..

James Vince, Player of the Match: It was nice. The bowlers did a fantastic job to restrict them to just over 100. It was important to get a partnership going and keep the pressure on them which we managed to do. It is a complete performance to start the tournament. Perhaps it (the surface) got better under lights and we expected that to happen since it was a fresh wicket. There are a few guys who missed out but they will have a role to play when the internationals go back on national duty. I am used to playing here, like to place it in the pockets and leave the big-hitting to the others. We like playing here and it is a great start tonight.

21:28 Local Time, 20:28 GMT, 01:58 IST: The target was never going to intimidate Southern Brave. The only way for them to compete was to pick early wickets and when they dropped James Vince off the 5th ball, it was almost like them resigning to their fate because the openers added 72 runs and took the game away. Vince was the aggressor in the first wicket partnership and he got even more freedom as the target got closer, he reached his fifty and finished things off quickly in support of Stoinis. Welsh Fire were never in the game and the bowlers had to make up for their lacklustre batting performance. They will hope this is just starting jitters and things will fall in place from the second game. Hang around for the presentations..

70 J Ball to James Vince, no ball, Southern Brave win by 9 wickets. It is as comprehensive as it can get. Handshakes all around as the home side give their supporters the perfect game. Vince and Stoinis walk off with a smile on their face. Slower ball bouncer and Vince tries to swat it into the leg-side, but doesn't connect and the umpire signals a no-ball

69 J Ball to James Vince, FOUR, the ball is following Higgins. Short ball and Vince takes it on, nails the pull flat towards deep backward square leg, Higgins runs in and gets there on the half volley, the ball bounces in front of him and escapes to the fence

68 J Ball to Stoinis, 1 run, length delivery and Stoinis wanted to finish it with a biggie, mistimes the heave to long-on

67 J Ball to James Vince, 1 run, fullish delivery and Vince checks his drive, chips it past cover and mid-off tidies up

66 J Ball to James Vince, no run, short of length around off, Vince punches with an open face and finds backward point

65 Payne to Stoinis, 1 run, banged into the surface and Stoinis short-arm jabs it to deep mid-wicket, for a single

64 Payne to James Vince, 1 run, short and venomless, Vince pulls it straight to deep square leg

63 Payne to James Vince, 2 runs, back of a length on off, Vince tucks it to square leg and the ball barely leaves the 30-yard ring and the pair are back for the second

62 Payne to Stoinis, 1 run, not all that short, Stoinis toe-ends the pull to the keeper and Tom Banton fumbles, concedes the run

61 Payne to Stoinis, no run, angled in from round the wicket, Stoinis drills it hard and straight to mid-on

60 Noor Ahmad to James Vince, 2 runs, leg-lined delivery and Vince nurdles it round the corner - to backward square leg, Stoinis races back for the second

59 Noor Ahmad to James Vince, SIX, Vince is now in a hurry to get this over with. Flighted delivery and he sits down on his knee, launches the slog sweep over deep mid-wicket, just manages to clear the rope

58 Noor Ahmad to Stoinis, 1 run, wrong 'un turning away, Stoinis cuts it to sweeper cover

57 Noor Ahmad to James Vince, 1 run, flatter and at the stumps, Vince nudges it through the mid-wicket region

56 Noor Ahmad to James Vince, FOUR, sloppy! Higgins is having a horrible time in the field. Googly that is dragged down, Vince slaps it in front of square on the off-side and Higgins runs around from sweeper cover, allows the bal to escape through his legs

55 Zampa to James Vince, FOUR, fifty for Vince. He raises his bat and acknowledges the applause at Rose Bowl. The Southern Brave skipper is made the most of his dropped chance. Stoinis walks up and congratulates him as well. Short and ample width outside off, Vince cuts it square and the ball keeps spinning away from the sweeper cover fielder

54 Zampa to Stoinis, 1 run, flatter and fraction short, Stoinis pulls it down to long-on
