Prior to the game Ash Gardner did say that her team had the ability to adapt to hybrid pitches. Australia sure did adapt quite well. The cricket leg is up and running with a hard-fought game. Barbados and Pakistan are waiting to play each other at 18:00 local time today. That's a wrap from this one. See you all in a few hours time!

How different is cricket at CWG 2022?

Both teams played with different outfits to their usual kit used in regular cricket comps. Teams do not have their respective cricket board badges.

All games, except the medal matches, are being played on Hybrid pitches. A hybrid pitch is a combination of natural grass and artificial fibres. These pitches can take more wear than the natural cricket pitches, allowing for prolonged usage of the surface for different matches at a particular venue. This is precisely why they are in use for CWG 2022 as Edgbaston is set to host a total of 16 matches in a space of 8 days. Both the medal matches will be played on conventional cricket pitches.

             Tournament structure:

Eight teams, split into two groups are part of this comp. Top two from each group will play the semi-finals. Winners of the semi-final will play the final for the gold medal. The losers of the semi-final will play the 3rd place play-off for the bronze medal.

14:02 Local Time, 13:02 GMT, 18:32 IST: Ash Gardner came, Ash Gardner saw, Ash Gardner conquered! What a brilliant performance from her. First strangled the Indians with the ball, then blasted her way out to put Australia on top when the team was under serious pressure in the chase. Renuka Singh gave the perfect start India could have asked for. Healy, Lanning, Mooney, McGrath dismissed inside 4 overs. Haynes didn't last long either, but Gardner and Harris started the repair work. The latter was severe and looked set to finish the game, but Harmanpreet took a stunner to get rid of her. But Gardner took the baton and made a mockery of the bowling towards the end.

             AUSW: 157-7 after 19 overs

18.6 Deepti Sharma to Alana King, FOUR, slogged away wide of mid-wicket, in the gap and it's four! That's it. Brilliant come from behind win for Australia

18.5 Deepti Sharma to Alana King, no run, Alana slogs and gets an inside edge onto thigh pad

18.4 Deepti Sharma to Gardner, 1 run, short delivery, Gardner cuts to deep point

18.3 Deepti Sharma to Gardner, FOUR, muscled to beat that dive at mid-off. Ash Gardner, what an innings, what a fifty - her 5th in T20Is. Full and in the slot, thank you very much drill from Gardner

18.2 Deepti Sharma to Gardner, 2 runs, now they are playing with the field. Short delivery, Gardner cuts towards deep point, weak throw from deep point and they get two instead of one

18.1 Deepti Sharma to Gardner, no run, flighted delivery outside off stump, Gardner steps out and drives to mid-off

Deepti Sharma [3.0-0-13-2] is back into the attack

             AUSW: 146-7 after 18 overs

17.6 Radha Yadav to Gardner, 1 run, shortish delivery, pushed to long-off, Shafali slow to attack, enough time for the second but Gardner denies because she wants strike

17.5 Radha Yadav to Gardner, FOUR, she is bossing the show! Flighted delivery, steps out, gets to the pitch of the ball and plays a brilliant looking inside out lofted drive over cover

17.4 Radha Yadav to Gardner, 2 runs, Gardner wants to end this early. Steps out and lofts this flighted delivery, fielded at long-on, but the fielder had to recover and throw, which gave enough time for Gardner to get back

17.3 Radha Yadav to Gardner, FOUR, yet another short delivery and Gardner has put Australia ahead now. Lovely cut shot, fielder at backward point dives but the ball escapes

17.2 Radha Yadav to Alana King, 1 run, dragged to deep mid-wicket

17.1 Radha Yadav to Alana King, no run, Alana steps out and toe-ends the slog onto her pad
